DANVILLE, Virginia (August 25, 2016) – Paul Miller Racing will double up on its Lamborghini racing program this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) where team drivers Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow will co-drive Lamborghini Huracáns in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series.
Paul Miller Racing has been a leading competitor for Lamborghini in its first year of IMSA WeatherTech GT Daytona (GTD) competition with Sellers and Snow co-driving the No. 48 Castrol EDGE Lamborghini Huracán GT3.
The duo combined to post the fastest lap times in the No. 48 in both IMSA WeatherTech GTD practice sessions Friday in the opening day of competition at VIR.
Sunday’s featured Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is the first of three races that will bring the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech Championship to a close. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 1:35 p.m. EDT, Sunday, August 28, and the race can be seen live on FOX Sports 1 (@FS1) beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
In addition to today’s practice sweep, Paul Miller Racing this season has given Lamborghini its first GTD pole, with Sellers at Detroit, and podium race finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, where Sellers and Snow finished third.
That success in part played a role in Paul Miller Racing expanding its 2016 racing program to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series for at least the next two race weekend events.
Sellers and Snow split Friday’s qualifying sessions for this weekend’s pair of Super Trofeo races in the No. 48 Universal Industrial Sales (UIS) Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2. Snow posted the second fastest Pro time for Saturday’s first race while Sellers was also the second quickest Pro in time trials for Sunday’s second and final race.
The VIR Super Trofeo doubleheader will be followed by another two-race weekend event at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) next month.
“We have been extremely happy with the close association we have established with Lamborghini in our first year of racing together,” Team Owner Paul Miller said. “The support and service we have received has been outstanding and helped us create the type of solid relationships that usually take several years to establish. They have been completely supportive of our decision to try the Super Trofeo series and have encouraged us every step of the way.”
The Super Trofeo expansion is also a direct result of the relationship Paul Miller and his team have established with Martin Snow, father of first-year team driver Madison Snow, and his family.
“Getting to the Snow family has truly been a highlight of this year,” Miller said. “Martin is as passionate about racing as I am, we feel incredibly lucky to have a driver as talented as Madison on our team, and his mother Melanie is one of the most intensely competitive people I have met. It is a pleasure to race with them.”
Madison Snow has previously raced with success in the Super Trofeo series, and Martin Snow owns the No. 48 UIS Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo in which his son and Sellers will split time at VIR and COTA.
Madison Snow most recently raced in Super Trofeo this past May at Laguna Seca, the last time both he and the No. 48 Huracán LP 620-2 ran in the series.
“One of the big things this weekend is that we are adding Super Trofeo to the mix,” Snow said. “This is the same Lamborghini Super Trofeo that I drove at Laguna Seca, and last year too. We ended up with the car after running it in a couple of races last year.”
Sellers is more than qualified to make his Super Trofeo debut.
“This will be my Super Trofeo debut and I’m very excited for it,” Sellers said. “It’s a cool opportunity to be able to race with Lamborghini in another series and I think it does a lot of things for us. I think it shows our commitment to Lamborghini and it show’s Paul’s commitment to the series.”
The team also wants to race the No. 48 Huracán to Lamborghini’s first IMSA WeatherTech GTD victory on Sunday.
“I did Super Trofeo before, and some other series, so pulling double duty is not a problem,” Snow said. “With two of us going back and forth into the same car it will be really nice to really work together on who needs to start the session, who needs to end the session, to get everything worked out for us in both series.”
With the 3.27-mile VIR road course having recently been repaved, Paul Miller Racing has been able tighten its learning curve with the ample extra sessions and laps that come with racing in two series.
“I think it’s hard to anticipate what’s actually going to happen with the pavement itself as the weekend goes on,” Sellers said. “It’s extremely difficult to guess what the conditions will do, but the good thing is that the Trofeo car will give us another opportunity to evaluate that.”
The Super Trofeo schedule began Thursday at VIR with an unofficial track test session in which Sellers and Snow both drove the No. 48 Huracán LP 620-2.
“It definitely helped out both me and Bryan with some extra seat time in a car before anybody else in our GTD class got out there on track,” Snow said. “We could figure out where the pavement has changes, where the curbs and bumps have changed, what is different and what is the same.”
Saturday’s IMSA GTD schedule includes a final one-hour practice at 8 a.m. EDT before the 15-minute GTD qualifying session later that morning at 11:55 a.m. EDT.
Race-day Sunday starts with a 20-minute warmup at 8:05 a.m. EDT, and the featured Michelin GT Challenge is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m. EDT for a two-hour and 40-minute race on the 3.27-mile VIR road course.
The Super Trofeo doubleheader features a pair of 50-minute races at VIR. Race 1 is scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m. EDT, Saturday, August 27, with Race 2 going off at 9:50 a.m. EDT, Sunday, August 28.
