MONTEREY, California (May 1, 2016) – Paul Miller Racing and team drivers Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow improved all weekend at the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix and finished seventh in the No. 48 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in today’s two-hour IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“We had a slow start to the weekend but we improved every session,” Snow said. “Every session we got better and found out something else about the car. We’re still learning a lot about the Lamborghini, and there’s a lot more to learn, but we have one more race under our belt. We’ll come to the next race a little more knowing about what different changes to the car effect it and how to make is go faster next time.”
The team lost valuable practice time Friday with what was determined to be a differential issue. An overnight change greatly improved the No. 48 and Snow qualified ninth fastest on Saturday.
“I think we kind of did the best we could do,” Sellers said. “We were the best Lamborghini. The guys worked so hard, spring changes all weekend, gearbox changes, so much, and I think that just shows the passion that goes into it.”
After tire and driver changes moved two other teams to the back, the No. 48 was moved up to seventh on the starting grid for today’s race. Snow defended the position from the drop of the green flag.
“It was a typical situation with very little grip on the track, so everybody just had to be right on line,” Snow said. “It seemed to be difficult if you wanted to make a pass, pull out or try something else, so it was a different race to run. I was out there behind Corey Lewis and had Pat Lindsey behind me, but as far as I could tell, we were pushing as hard as we could but we had nothing for each other. Lindsey caught me pretty quick but then he just had nothing for me.”
Snow pitted with the rest of the GTD front runners during the only caution period of the race just minutes before the halfway mark. Sellers took over and, after some quick pit work by the Paul Miller Racing team, returned to the race still in seventh place.
“We had a good pit stop, kept everything clean, and Madison drove a great stint,” Sellers said. “It was all out in the final hour and we raced pretty hard. We certainly didn’t have the pace to be where we were, or ahead of where we were, so it was just about us doing the best we could and executing.”
The seventh place finish was the highest for a Lamborghini in today’s race.
“We have a lot of work to do going forward but we came out of this one with a pretty good position,” Sellers said. “We’ll learn and move forward.”
Next up for Paul Miller Racing and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic on the Raceway at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, June 3 – 4.
