ELKHART LAKE, Wis., (August 3, 2017) – Following an impressive pole position and podium finish last month at Lime Rock Park, Paul Miller Racing will bring its competitive package to Road America for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase. Drivers Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow drove the No. 48 TOTAL Lubricants/UIS Lamborghini Huracán GT3 to a second place finish at Paul Miller Racing’s home track, and look to continue to improve on the team’s success this weekend.
From the shortest track on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to the longest, Road America will host round nine of the 12 race season. The increased length of the track means drivers will complete less laps in the three hours of practice sessions before qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Both Sellers and Snow have considerable sports car experience at the 14 turn, 4.048 mile road course, finishing eighth in 2016.
All four classes will reunite compete together this weekend, boasting 36 entries for the two hour, forty minute race. I’m really looking forward to Road America. It’s one of the greatest tracks in the country. It’s one of the few places that will always put a smile on your face. We have had strong cars the last couple of races and are working hard to get on some sort of success streak. Road America is always a race that rewards a strong team performance, and that is one of our strengths.
Madison Snow
Road America is the longest track we race at this year, with some high speed straights, but once you look beyond that first glimpse of the track, there are a lot of technical difficult corners here. The complex coming on to the front straight may be the most difficult to get correct, as it’s easy to overcharge the entry, and then ruin your exit all the way down. The carousel is a very fun corner, as it has so many different options going through it. With it being so long, the only important aspect is that you get a good exit from it. How you race through the center varies from car to car, and how the cars are set up with charging in really hard and being slow in the center to recover the car, or worrying about keeping your minimum speed up through the corner. All of those differences change by whether you have a front or rear engine car, and how much aero you have to work with in that corner. The kink keeps getting faster and faster every year as our cars improve and as we fine tune handling on them. My favorite part about this track has to be qualifying though, with such big exit curbs you can gain a lot of time using them, but it is also easy to lose a lot of traction on them as well. There can be a lot of lap time gained in a good qualifying session around here, also due to the track being so long there are a much shorter number of laps that we will get than compared to Lime Rock so it just means we have to get it done early! Paul Miller Racing has picked up quite a bit of pace recently, as showed in our last race at Lime Rock Park. I believe we will be able to keep that momentum going this race and hopefully leave with a podium finish!
