DETROIT, MI (Thursday, June 10, 2021) — The No. 1 Paul Miller Racing team is back on track this weekend as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns to Detroit’s Belle Isle Raceway after the series missed the event in 2020.
Drivers of the Total lubricants-backed Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO, Madison Snow and Bryan Sellers, return to the bumpy street circuit after an inch-perfect race in Mid-Ohio that saw the pair finish on the podium.
The podium finish in the first round of the 2021 IMSA Sprint Cup boosts Snow and Sellers to fifth in the overall IMSA GTD points standings, and third in the Sprint Cup championship. The Detroit event will only score points towards the Sprint Cup for the GTD class.
In the pair’s two previous visits to Detroit, Snow and Sellers scored back-to-back podiums in 2017 and 2018. Sellers additionally has a top five finish in 2019 with then-teammate Ryan Hardwick.
“This team worked so hard before and at Mid-Ohio and it was encouraging to see it pay off with a podium finish,” Paul Miller Racing team owner, Paul Miller, said.
“We’re hoping we can keep that momentum going and get a good result in Detroit and really solidify our position as contenders in the Sprint Cup championship.
“Madison and Bryan have finished third here twice before, and we have tended to run strong when luck falls our way, so it should be a good weekend for the team!”
Practice from Detroit’s Belle Isle kicks off on Friday, June 11 at 8:00 AM Eastern.
Saturday’s race will be shown LIVE on NBCSN beginning at 5:00 PM Eastern. Flag-to-flag coverage will also be available on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold and the NBC Sports App with authentication.
Madison Snow
“I love racing at Detroit, it’s one of my favorite tracks IMSA goes to. I am really happy to be able to return this year since last year Detroit was canceled. Paul Miller Racing has had favorable results here in the past, so it’s safe to say this place is a good track for us.
“Previously, we’ve been able to choose our starting stint driver and our tire strategy for this race, and it’s a bummer we don’t have that flexibility anymore, but this team has always excelled being able to play a different strategy than others. So, I am certain we can come up with something different this year to help us get up front and stay up front!”
Bryan Sellers
“Detroit is a track the Lamborghini has excelled at in the past, and an event that Madison and I have been able to show a lot of pace.
“However, it is a race that has slipped away from us four times. I think we both feel like we have unfinished business here. It’s an event that always produces great racing, and I’m certain this year will be no different. We will definitely have our work cut out for us but we will try and give everything we have.”
